I was born in London of Afro Carribean parentage. As a young child my keen interest to design and create clothes became the driving force behind my choice to study Fashion and Textiles at University. After graduating, I gained valuable knowledge of the Fashion industry by working in various creative environments. Having worked in a variety of Fashion focused roles including Freelance Styling and Visual Merchandising I became even more inspired and determined to create my own collection.
With a strong desire to promote and develop my own individual style, I started to make my own dresses, experimenting with colour, texture and patterns. Receiving compliments about the outfits I created for myself, encouraged me to start designing for friends and family.
Where does your inspiration come from?
The current Autumn/Winter collection is inspired by the natural earth tones associated with the season. I wanted to create a collection that captures the essence and beauty of autumn, with the use bold autumnal colours and soft feminine designs. Afro-chique promotes individuality, recognising that modern femininity is about strength, identity and attitude.
Future Plans?
My plans for the future are to be fair trade by sourcing materials and having garments made in Africa therefore giving back to the local communites.
Any statement?
Afro-Chique is a brand and style thats different from the mainstream fashion you see on the High Street. The brand is created for people who are not afraid to stand out from the crowd.
‘The art of Fashion is not to follow trends but to wear what suits you.’

Lauryn Hill is an American originally from Haiti who is best known for a remarquable debut album with the band “the Refugees”. Today, we will focus on how she managed to create her natural and unique look to reach the first places on the international charts when most of her peers are addicted to lace wigs, blond hair or both .
Born with a small oval face (ideal for photographers), Lauryn can go for any hairstyle, she has chosen natural hair with volume. Sometimes she also appears with short hair or braids: by keeping them always black and healthy, she remains ageless. Lauryn has big eyes (like children) which are enhanced by black mascara and individual false eye lashes for evenings out. Her make-up is subtle due to the quality of her skin condition. Natural colours on her eye shadows and a glossy or mat foundation depending on her clothes, will complete a dark lip color.
Lauryn is an ectomorph: her fragile bone structure, her flat chest and small shoulders, allow her to follow the fashion trends. She can choose tight or flexible clothes, long or short skirts, trousers or dresses. In terms of colour directions, Ms Hill is deep and bright combinations (purple/white) or contradiction (green/red) suit her traditional-bohemian chic style.
