TRENDS BY Christelle

sofisticate-afro-chique-montage-no-watermark.jpgWho are You?

I was born in London of Afro Carribean parentage. As a young child my keen interest to design and create clothes became the driving force behind my choice to study Fashion and Textiles at University. After graduating, I gained valuable knowledge of the Fashion industry by working in various creative environments. Having worked in a variety of Fashion focused roles including Freelance Styling and Visual Merchandising I became even more inspired and determined to create my own collection.

With a strong desire to promote and develop my own individual style, I started to make my own dresses, experimenting with colour, texture and patterns. Receiving compliments about the outfits I created for myself, encouraged me to start designing for friends and family.

Where does your inspiration come from?

The current Autumn/Winter collection is inspired by the natural earth tones associated with the season. I wanted to create a collection that captures the essence and beauty of autumn, with the use bold autumnal colours and soft feminine designs. Afro-chique promotes individuality, recognising that modern femininity is about strength, identity and attitude.

Future Plans?

My plans for the future are to be fair trade by sourcing materials and having garments made in Africa therefore giving back to the local communites.

Any statement?

Afro-Chique is a brand and style thats different from the mainstream fashion you see on the High Street. The brand is created for people who are not afraid to stand out from the crowd.

‘The art of Fashion is not to follow trends but to wear what suits you.’

DECO BY Osleidis

Henry Hang is a young Cameroonian designer who is very discreet but also very gifted. He has so many talents: painting, handwriting, interior decorating, photography and illustrations which are declined on almost every kind of materials. Among his references there are prestigious firms such as Les Galeries Lafayette, BHV or Universal in Paris, France… impressive isn’t it? His style? Resolutely urban. His influences? Definitely Hip-hop.

When you are Sofisticate you like beautiful things, whether it be for your style, your make-up or your home. We will thus talk about Art & Design on this blog and i will hunt out the new trends for you, so that you can customize and make your home more Sofisticate. First of all you have to know that the come back of the wall paper is now official since two years. So this may be the right moment to be in don’t you think? All the more because wall stickers and other toys are already announcing a new era in the fields of interior decorating, that will soon be out of fashion, just as the previous one.

However, there is no need to go and spend all your money in the closest Harrods shop for the last wallpaper promoted on TV. You can find styles, matters and patterns that fit you the best. Sofisticate accepts no imitation! You have to draw your inspiration from the trends not to fully copy them. And if you think it is impossible, just have a look at Henry Hang’s creations!

For one of them you can break your piggy bank, and you can believe me, it is worthy. No matter if you live in a studio flat, a one-room flat or two-rooms flat because his wall stickers which are in strips can easily dress up a whole wall. It is not that expensive (about 100 euros) and his cushions’ originality is even more emphasized on a white sofa. The paintings are huge and are sometimes made of two or three pieces; one of them is enough to make your home look exceptional!
