Being 50 times cheaper than gold, silver is an interesting alternative when you think about buying a good piece of jewelry. Well known to tarnish, silver is chosen accordingly to the craftmanship which has been used to create the piece. If handmade, the silver will cost more than if created with a machine.
Sterling silver is one of the best quality as it helps to find the level of work undertaken to finish a piece. Sterling silver is made of 7,5% copper and the rest is silver. When buying silver, always have a look on a stamp that either gives the designer’s name or that clearly states “sterling”.

Choosing a piece of gold is a skill that needs to be perfected. Always keep in mind that different qualities of gold will have different colors: white-gold pieces are mixed with rhodium ( white metal) to prevent metal from getting dark and cost approximatively 30% less than platinum . Pink gold is made of copper and yellow gold. Yellow gold is the natural color, suitable for dark skins and available in nearly every shape as it is highly malleable.
In Africa, the 22kt is still quite used which is a deeper and brighter version of the 14kt and 18kt available respectively in USA and Europe . Always have a look on the stamp appearing on the pieces; they will give you the karat or gold content of a piece. 18kt (75% gold) and 14kt (58,3% gold)

I was born in London of Afro Carribean parentage. As a young child my keen interest to design and create clothes became the driving force behind my choice to study Fashion and Textiles at University. After graduating, I gained valuable knowledge of the Fashion industry by working in various creative environments. Having worked in a variety of Fashion focused roles including Freelance Styling and Visual Merchandising I became even more inspired and determined to create my own collection.
With a strong desire to promote and develop my own individual style, I started to make my own dresses, experimenting with colour, texture and patterns. Receiving compliments about the outfits I created for myself, encouraged me to start designing for friends and family.
Where does your inspiration come from?
The current Autumn/Winter collection is inspired by the natural earth tones associated with the season. I wanted to create a collection that captures the essence and beauty of autumn, with the use bold autumnal colours and soft feminine designs. Afro-chique promotes individuality, recognising that modern femininity is about strength, identity and attitude.
Future Plans?
My plans for the future are to be fair trade by sourcing materials and having garments made in Africa therefore giving back to the local communites.
Any statement?
Afro-Chique is a brand and style thats different from the mainstream fashion you see on the High Street. The brand is created for people who are not afraid to stand out from the crowd.
‘The art of Fashion is not to follow trends but to wear what suits you.’
Some of us are lenses and/or glasses wearers. Applying make-up is one of the many beauty skills, we should be aware of, especially if we plan to remain sofisticated wearing glasses sixteen hours a day.
The colour of your frames needs to be checked before starting any make-up use. Checking out the length of your glasses is also useful, at this point can transform a smokey eye. Be aware that as wearers of glasses, your eye make-up will be heavier than a woman who do not wear glasses. If your glasses are tinted, this will affect the colours on your eyes, keep it in mind. The eye colours should always match with the colours of the frames. Mascara should be black for all occasions.
