sofisticate-lauryn-hill.jpgLauryn Hill is an American originally from Haiti who is best known for a remarquable debut album with the band “the Refugees”. Today, we will focus on how she managed to create her natural and unique look to reach the first places on the international charts when most of her peers are addicted to lace wigs, blond hair or both .

Born with a small oval face (ideal for photographers), Lauryn can go for any hairstyle, she has chosen natural hair with volume. Sometimes she also appears with short hair or braids: by keeping them always black and healthy, she remains ageless. Lauryn has big eyes (like children) which are enhanced by black mascara and individual false eye lashes for evenings out. Her make-up is subtle due to the quality of her skin condition. Natural colours on her eye shadows and a glossy or mat foundation depending on her clothes, will complete a dark lip color.

Lauryn is an ectomorph: her fragile bone structure, her flat chest and small shoulders, allow her to follow the fashion trends. She can choose tight or flexible clothes, long or short skirts, trousers or dresses. In terms of colour directions, Ms Hill is deep and bright combinations (purple/white) or contradiction (green/red) suit her traditional-bohemian chic style.

42-18712865Investing in a good piece of jewellery is a fashion statement. Being aware of how to choose diamond, is a key skill to master. 10 percent of an American annual salary will be spent on an engagement ring. The four Cs are the rule to follow. The Carat is the diamond’s overall weight. Carat weight, on its own, does not give the value of a diamond, you should always check with a jeweller, if the carat is 1/5 of a gram. The Clarity is used to work out the imperfections of a piece of diamond. The Colour is linked to the amount of yellow, brown or white, the stone contains. Whiter the stone appears, better its quality is. The Cut is a reference to the stone’s shape or facets; a jeweller can get more into details http://www.jewellerylondon.com/

WHATS NEW ? BY Christelle

sofisticate-akumode.jpgWho are you?

Irene Adjei, 33 years old, eight years in fashion, ex-student from Central Saint Martins, Irene graduated with a Bachelor of science in Fashion & textiles design Management from Heriot-watt university, school of textiles. In the Ghanaian culture, West Africa, you are given a name accordingly to the day you are born and in relation to your sex. So as a Wednesday born girl my name is Akua. I thought a Akua may be had to pronounced so I opted for Aku which also is for a Wednesday born child and may be easier to pronounce and of course ‘mode; means ‘current fashion’ in French

Why have you chosen to design corsets?

The fabrics are carefully chosen and it is possible to do lot more with bustier as they allow more flexibility as well as three dimensional designs. I have a passion for corset structure. I work within the fashion industry which is very competitive and challenging industry.

Where does your inspiration come from?

I dream of certain shape through people clothes, shapes or architectural details and art deco pieces from the 1940’s or 1950’s then I sketch them and start working on different cuts and structures, seeking original shapes and expanding my ideas.

What about the differences between a bust, a corset and a belt?

Waist cincher is cut high on the hip, nestling under the bust, flatten tummy and enhace the waist. Bustier is scultured to give an hour glass figure with much flexibility and corset much more structured like bridal architecture which is mainly designed with shape. Waist chest are more likely to be developed dressing up a day dress.

You are a modern twist, would you please explain your concept?

I like to be bold with my fabric and colour choice, it direct and enhance my creactivity. I enjoy challenging what is out so my designs are directional with a catwalk look but practical too for one to wear it with uniqueness and pride.

A last word for a French sofisticated lady?

I would fit in that country, because it is very brave with colours and style. www.akumode.com
